Covisint previews new Covisint Connect messaging service at AIAG's AUTO-TECH 2003

New service on track for market introduction later this year.

Detroit, Aug. 26, 2003 -- Covisint, the independent e-business service provider for the global automotive industry, will preview its new Covisint Connect automotive focused data messaging service at the Automotive Industry Action Group's (AIAG) AUTO-TECH 2003 event this week. Covisint Connect is being developed with the support of General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler, Johnson Controls, Delphi Corporation and Lear Corporation.

A demonstration of the Covisint Connect service will show how easy it is to enable a supply chain to begin using the service to leverage the Open Applications Group (OAGI) Business Object Document (BOD) standards to reduce mapping complexities and cost. The demonstration is being performed in cooperation with AIAG, the National Institute for Standards (NIST), Nissan and BCE Emergis Systems. The demonstration highlights the ability of Covisint Connect to support Web Services, ebXML and traditional EDI communication protocols and document format standards.

"This demonstration showcases some of the work that Covisint, together with its consortium of companies, has been performing with AIAG to establish industry standards in conjunction with developing the new Covisint service," said Jeff Liedel, Vice President of New Product Development for Covisint. "Covisint Connect has been developed to deliver simplicity through a single connection that will permit transfer of data to customers and suppliers in the format that makes the most sense for their company. This approach reduces the complexity of managing multiple formats that have been dictated by customers and the multitude of protocols and connection points that are required to conduct business. This means significantly less data translation and the maintenance that accompanies those processes."

Covisint also has begun interoperability testing between the members of the consortium and a sub-set of their trading partners to prepare for a rapid roll out of the Covisint Connect service in December. These tests include the first two communications software providers - Cleo Communications and BCE Emergis Systems - that will participate in the Covisint Connect On-Ramp Provider Program to accelerate the roll out of Covisint Connect to the market. These tests are currently in progress and will conclude later this fall.

The Covisint Connect service is a key component of the Covisint Industry Operating System called 'Connect-Communicate-Collaborate'. Covisint Communicate provides an industry-wide portal that enables information sharing with your suppliers via the web. Covisint Collaborate provides a gateway to specialized third-party applications and trading partner management services. Together these components enable OEM's and suppliers to reduce costs, increase efficiency, enhance quality and improve time to market.
