Covisint receives Trust Services security certification
Ensures data availability, security, integrity and maintainability for e-commerce customersSouthfield, Mich. - February 24, 2003 -- Covisint, the global independent e-business environment for the automotive industry, announced that it has successfully acquired Trust Services certification for Covisint systems. The certification affirms that Covisint's systems policies and procedures adhere to Trust Services principles and criteria for system reliability in the areas of availability, security, and integrity as well as the principles and criteria for confidentiality.
"Achieving Trust Services certification assures our customers that we meet the highest standards of customer data security and privacy," said David C. Miller, Chief Information Security Officer for Covisint. "It also helps inspire customer confidence in us and our business systems by improving the quality and context of information for their decision makers."
Due to its high customer regard for security, Covisint has deployed robust, state-of-the-art technology to assure that its systems are protected against unauthorized access, both physical and logical. Employees are subjected to rigorous background checks, and trained to ensure their alertness on security issues. The company has committed that best practices in security will be implemented throughout the organization.
To ensure confidentiality of customer data, Covisint's technical infrastructure employs physically secure data centers, utilizing advanced multi-tier network design. To further guarantee privacy and confidentiality, all communications over insecure networks are encrypted. Access control is applied to all software programs and tools. In addition to Covisint's infrastructure security, each program is subjected to an Application Security Review, which is part of the company's Gateway Process.
Miller said that the Trust Services certification is important to help Covisint communicate to customers that its auctions and exchanges conducted through its e-marketplace are being administered on a level playing field and that no unfair information advantages are gained by any customer. The certification also helps protect the interests of collaborating parties by ensuring that designs and prices are kept confidential.
Miller stressed the neutrality that is required by U.S. and European agencies, as well as by Covisint's own high, ethical standards, ensures that investor access to the Covisint Portal is governed by the same policies, procedures and activities as other registered members of the Covisint exchange. Investors can only access information relating to their specific activities on the Covisint Portal, he added.
The Trust Services certification assures customers that Covisint employs processes and procedures that protect and secure their data. The Trust Services principles and criteria are established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). A company qualifies for it after satisfying an independent examination, which in Covisint's case was carried out by Ernst & Young.
